Education

Education has always been the first priority of UNESCO, because it is through the purposeful, wise dissemination of ideas, cultural values and peaceful worldview that the objectives of UNESCO are achieved in all areas of its competence. Nowadays, the concept of education affects all areas of UNESCO's activities without exception, especially those relating to the dissemination of knowledge in science and culture, and raises public awareness, competence and consciousness.

The beginning of the Lithuanian education reform almost coincides with the beginning of the Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO activity. The accession of our country to UNESCO meant new opportunities for Lithuanian education specialists to work in a quantitative and qualitative manner with UNESCO and other international education specialists, to exchange information, to receive consulting and financial support for the development and implementation of education reform. By responding actively to UNESCO initiatives and proposals, participating in joint projects and activities of UNESCO units, Lithuania is making effective use of the opportunities offered by membership.
