Lithuania’s support campaign for Ukraine “Unbreakable”
The neo-fresco “Nezlamna” / “Unbreakable”, created using a unique technique, can be seen in Vilnius, right next to one of the capital’s main arteries of life, the River Neris, on the wall of the building at A. Juozapavičiaus St. 9. The neo-fresco symbolises the unbreakable determination of the Ukrainian people to defend their Freedom, as well as Lithuania’s enduring promise of support for Ukraine and its people.
The inventory – map – website of cross-crafting sites, monuments, their clusters, distinguished by historical, social, cultural or artistic value, as well as cross-makers’ workshops, was developed in 2020–2023 by the Secretariat of the Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO together with a creative team. The map is currently being further developed and administered by the Lithuanian National Centre for Culture.
“The Secret of the Oak” is a 6-minute animated film presenting the Lithuanian cross-crafting tradition, in which the values of this tradition and the relationship of different generations with it are revealed through the characters’ conversations (an English version and sign language interpretation are available). The film was created in 2023 as part of the project “Secrets of Cross-Crafting”.
“The Cross-maker’s Gene” is an opportunity to meet master wood craftsmen and hear the younger generation’s thoughts on the future of this craft tradition. In the 14-minute documentary, created in 2024 as part of the project “Secrets of Cross-Crafting”, well-known Lithuanian cross-makers speak about their relationship with history and tradition, its relevance and chances of survival in modern society, as well as the various experiences and secrets of cross-crafting.
“LIVIND” on the links between intangible cultural heritage and sustainable development
This documentary film from the international project LIVIND presents the creative workshops “Varėna Mushroom Festival Towards Sustainability”. In it, the guardians of Dzūkija’s culture and nature speak about the mushroom-picking traditions of the forest-dwelling Dzūkians, the value of community, and the links between intangible heritage and the prospects for a creative, more sustainable future.
